Freeport Housing Trust supports the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland and has worked with the Town of Freeport to make house lots available for construction of Habitat homes. In 2004 the Town donated a 10-acre parcel of tax-acquired property to FHT. The Housing Trust proceeded to clear title to the property and then subdivide it into three parcels. Two parcels fronting on Grant Road were then donated to Habitat and two new Habitat homes were constructed. The third parcel comprising back land was turned over to the Freeport Conservation Commission to become part of the abutting conservation property.
